These days it seems that if you run into someone you haven't seen for a while and ask, 'How are you doing?', nine out of ten the answer is something like "Oh my gawwwwd! I'm just SO busy!" They then proceed to tell you all the details of how frantic and frenetic their life has been. First there was the car breaking down, then the son's dental problems, the daughter announcing she's a vegan-lesbian (or would that be lesbian-vegan?), how the dog ate the Christmas ham (much to the delight of the daughter), the 5 trips to the airport to get rid of all the in-laws and 'oh my god - don't even get me STARTED on work!'
It's like there's a contest; a need to show how dynamic, exciting, challenging and eventful their life has been since you last met. They're throwing down the gauntlet! "Ha! I'll see your sick cat and raise you a lesbian daughter!"
We wear our stress like a badge of honor - proving how full our lives are by how many things we can complain about. But I recently discovered something - something so profound it was like a slap in the face - a shock to my chakra. No, it wasn't meditation or yoga, religion or a higher being. It was really more of a re-discovery - something I was too young to understand had such deep wisdom the first time around.
I was doing what most people do on a Thursday night, surfing YouTube videos. It's funny how all of us busy people still manage to blow entire evenings with 'click, OMG I haven't heard this song in X years!!, reminisce for 4 minutes, rinse & repeat'. I don't recall the sequence of clicks that led me to this perspective-altering gem. I certainly wasn't looking for it - so chalk it up to serendipity. It was something we all know and love, that encapsulates all the good in the world and shows us all that simplicity, clarity of thought, and optimism is all we need. We can all take a lesson, from Kermit.
Enjoy.

Seeing this made all those elementary school "Jean Jean the green machine" taunts worth it. Thanks for the "magic" Jeannie!
